    Center for Orthopedic Services

Galesburg Cottage Hospital offers orthopedic services including prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries and disorders of the skeletal system and associated bones, joints, tendons, muscles, ligaments and nerves.

There may come a time when knee or hip pain reduces the quality of your life. Everyday activities, such as walking, shopping or housework can become difficult or unbearable. Taking part in favorite hobbies such as golf or bowling may be a thing of the past because conservative measures like diet, exercise and medications no longer provide relief or alleviate your pain. If this is you, it may be time to consider joint replacement. Galesburg Cottage Hospital has created a special program that brings together a team of surgeons with specially-trained nurses, therapists and technicians. Our goal is to provide seamless, coordinated care, and get you back to your favorite activities as soon as possible.

At The Center for Orthopedic Services at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, we know that you have a choice when it comes to where to have your procedure. Within our hospital, we have created a special area just for the care of our knee and hip replacement patients. A family member will be encouraged to become their coach and participate in group activities. Exercise and therapy is also provided in a group setting, so that our patients can support, encourage and connect with each other while they recover. These new connections are designed to enhance the healing process.

Led by board certified orthopedic surgeons Craig Wilson, MD and Gregory Schierer, MD both of whom possess positive motivational skills and a desire to provide outstanding service. In addition, they have been specifically trained to provide comprehensive clinical care for patients undergoing these important procedures. Dr. Wilson and Dr. Schierer, work closely with our great nurses and physical therapy staff to offer a specialized program that encompasses wellness, early mobility, family involvement, education, personal responsibility, group interaction and minimally invasive and rapid-recovery techniques for better outcomes following joint replacement surgery.

With surgery and post-op care, it is now common for many patients to be able to go home from the hospital after two or three days. Of course, each patient is different, but the goal should be for you to recover in the comfort and privacy of your own home as soon as possible.
