About Knee Arthroscopy

Knee arthroscopy is only recommended if your knee pain remains even after rest, physical therapy, and medications or injections that can help reduce inflammation. If the pain continues, knee arthroscopy could be the best solution. It is an outpatient surgical procedure involving cartilage surfaces and the soft tissues surrounding the joint. During a knee scope, your orthopedic surgeon will make a very small incision and insert a tiny camera - called an arthroscope - into your knee. This allows them to view the inside of the joint on a screen.

Common arthroscopic procedures for the knee include:

  • Removal or repair of a torn meniscus
  • Reconstruction of a torn anterior cruciate ligament
  • Trimming of damaged articular cartilage
  • Removal of loose fragments of bone or cartilage

Recovery & Follow-Up Care

We perform a knee scope on an outpatient basis, allowing you to go home the same day. Recovery may take a few weeks, with some swelling expected.

Your surgeon and dedicated care team will closely monitor your healing. We may recommend physical therapy.
