• x-ray of kidneys

Dialysis means, literally, “cleaning of blood”. When a patient’s kidneys cannot effectively remove waste and excess fluid from the body, external, mechanical methods may be required. More than 10 percent Americans live with chronic kidney disease.1 For patients with kidney disease or who are in renal failure, hemodialysis is a treatment designed to supplement and/or perform the cleansing functions of the kidneys. It can be an inpatient or outpatient treatment option.

Galesburg Cottage Hospital offers hemodialysis services through Fresenius Medical Care Clinic. Acute renal failure patients receive treatments two to three times each week, depending on the amount of kidney function they have. Each treatment takes up to 3 to 4 hours. As patients are dialyzed, they are carefully monitored by the nursing staff.

Fresenius offers inpatient services at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and outpatient services at the clinic location. Dialysis services for non-residents are available at the Fresenius Medical Center. Please call ahead to make arrangements.

The Fresenius Medical Care Clinic is open Monday through Saturday and after hours for emergencies and is located on the first floor of the Cottage Professional-Kellogg Building, just off the Kellogg Street parking lot.
