(Galesburg, IL) - More than 30 skin cancer screening participants of Thursday evening’s Healthy Woman event were found to have had basal cell skin cancers. One participant was diagnosed with a life threatening form of skin cancer, melanoma, and the most serious type of skin cancer.
Galesburg physicians, Mark Davis, M.D., FACS, board certified in general surgery and R. Sherwin Parungao, MD, board eligible in general surgery, of Surgical Clinics, Ltd., and John W. McClean, MD, board certified in hematology/oncology of Medical Surgical Specialists, Ltd., sponsored the complimentary event, lectured on the topic and conducted the screenings as part of the Healthy Woman program at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Galesburg Cottage Hospital nurses were also on hand for the private screenings, as well. Over 100 area women participated in the screening event.
