(Galesburg, IL) - Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, yet it's also the most preventable and curable type of cancer when it is detected early. Three Galesburg physicians will offer complimentary skin cancer screenings to Galesburg area women next week as part of the Healthy Woman second annual skin cancer program at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. At last year's inaugural event, 34 cases of skin cancer were detected, two of which were melanomas.
The physicians conducting the screening are Mark Davis, M.D., FACS, board certified in general surgery and Sherwin Parungao, MD, board-eligible in general surgery, both of Surgical Clinics, and John McClean, MD, board certified in Hematology/Oncology and Internal Medicine of Surgical Specialists, Ltd. All three physicians are members of the medical staff at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and will begin the screening with a short seminar on the different types of skin cancer.
The event, to be held Wednesday, June 16th in the auditorium of Galesburg Cottage Hospital, will begin at 7:00 p.m. Those opting for the skin cancer screening will have their actual screenings in the Wound Healing Center in private exam rooms. Galesburg Cottage Hospital nurses will also be on hand for the screening. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Eileen Inness, Director, Marketing, and PR & Healthy Woman at 345-4563.
The Galesburg Cottage Hospital annual Healthy Woman program is made possible by Platinum Sponsors, Yemm Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Chrysler, Jeep, 105.3 K-FM and GateHouse Media.
