November 17, 2011 (Galesburg, Illinois) - Three Galesburg Cottage Hospital employees were recently honored for their dedication, expertise and customer service skills. In addition, 56 GCH employees were honored for their longevity of service.
Ramona Sickles, a Radiologic Technologist and a resident of Abingdon, was named 2011 Employee of the Year. In making the announcement, Galesburg Cottage Hospital Chief Executive Officer Earl Tamar said, "Ramona is truly an inspiration as evidenced by the way in which she led physicians and staff during implementation of the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Her customer service skills with patients, physicians and co-workers are exemplary." Sickles will receive a cash award and an expense paid trip to Nashville, Tennessee, after the first of the year.
Shannon Cox, RN, Lead Nurse for Cottage Clinics and formerly, Interim Director of Physician Practices, was named Clinical Manager of the Year. "As an interim director, Shannon has done such an outstanding job and it obviously has been noticed by all of her co-workers and department directors as many have spoken of her significant achievements," said Tamar. Shannon is a resident of Abingdon.
Denise Goad, Supervisor of Patient Registration at GCH and a native of Galesburg, was named 2011 Non-Clinical Manager of the Year. According to Tamar, "Denise is front and center when needed and possesses such a positive attitude that she was nominated by co-workers, those whom she leads and her senior director." A Galesburg High School graduate, Goad is married and has 3 grown children and one grandchild. Goad was named supervisor in 2003 and has worked at GCH for 35 years.
GCH employees nominate fellow employees in good standing as candidates for Non-Clinical Manager, Clinical Manager and Employee of the Year awards during the fall of each year.
Attending the event with the 45 years of service were Ann Larson, LPN, ICU, Rosemary Rossell, RN, OB, and Karen Sornberger, Cancer Registrar, Health Information Management. Ruby Tye, RN, Surgical Services, also a 45 year employee, was unable to attend.
Also honored was Becky Dowel, MDS Coordinator, Transitional Care Unit, celebrating 40 years of service to GCH.
